Everything was larger than life: the sound, the spectacle, the songs, the musicians, all doing things with their instruments that I had never seen before and didn't know were even possible. When I was 9 years old, my dad took me to see Deep Purple in Copenhagen, Denmark on a dark, cold Saturday night in February 1973. The other is that of the band that changed my life. This night is the culmination of two musical journeys. I’m Lars and I’m seriously fucking honored to be here. It’s no secret that Deep Purple have inspired, influenced and thrilled Lars since he was just nine years old, and long been instrumental in shaping him as a musician. Our own Lars Ulrich had the distinct honor of inducting Deep Purple to the Rock Hall. Just a few hours ago, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, the 31st Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony took place, with Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, NWA, Chicago and Steve Miller being inducted that will be aired on HBO on Saturday, April 30th.
